MQSIS Research Infrastructure Block Grants Scheme (RIBG)
17 Aug 2011 28 Sep 201126 Oct 2011 CLOSED

Late applications will not be accepted.

The Research Infrastructure Block Grants (RIBG) Scheme is funded from an institutional block grant provided by the Commonwealth Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR). The purpose of the RIBG Scheme is to enhance the development and maintenance of research infrastructure in higher education institutions for the support of high-quality research in all disciplines.

The four main objectives for the Program that have been set by DEEWR are:

  • To enhance the development and maintenance of research infrastructure in Higher Education Providers (HEP)s for the support of high quality research in all disciplines
  • To meet project-related infrastructure costs associated with Australian Competitive Grants
  • To remedy deficiencies in current research infrastructure
  • To ensure that areas of recognised research potential, in which HEPs have taken steps to initiate high quality research activity, have access to the support necessary for development.
Definition of Research Infrastructure

Research infrastructure consists of the institutional resources that are essential for the mounting of high quality research projects or programs - excluding direct costs that should be covered by research grants or the operating grant.

Relationship to the Strategic Infrastructure Scheme

The Strategic Infrastructure Scheme (SIS) is comprised of the former Equipment Fund and the Research Infrastructure Block Grants Scheme. Within SIS, the Faculty Research Infrastructure Fund and the Research Infrastructure Block Grants Fund (RIBG) are available for competitive application from Faculties and research teams respectively.

The Macquarie University Partnerships Seeding Grants Scheme (MQPSGS) replaces Stage 1 of the MQ Linkage Projects Seeding Grants Scheme, and is designed to support Macquarie University staff to develop partnerships with identified external Partner Organisations, with a view to conducting a funded research project under any appropriate external funding agency scheme, including ARC Linkage Projects.

Funding of up to $10,000 is available to meet the costs of developing the relationship with the partner, to the point that a funded research project is in prospect.  Justifiable costs may include travel to meet with the partner(s), workshops involving MQ researchers and partners, communication and administrative costs, and teaching relief as appropriate.  Other justifiable activities may include the costs of collaborative research that will enable key results to be produced and/or key methodologies to be demonstrated, either of which will underpin the proposed research relationship.  For full details, please see the Funding Rules at the link below.

The maximum grant period is six months.  The scheme will have two rounds per year, with Round 1 funding commencing 1 July, and Round 2 commencing 1 January.

Please note that Stage 2 of the MQ Linkage Projects Seeding Grants Scheme has been superseded by Enterprise Partnerships Scheme Pilot Research Grants, administered by Enterprise Partnerships and Commercialisation.  For full details of this scheme and to access the funding rules and application, please click here.
