Intellectual Property and Commercialisation Committee (IPCC)

The Intellectual Property and Commercialisation Committee (IPCC) is responsible for the development of strategy and policy advice in the areas of intellectual property, innovation and commercialisation. The Committee reports to the Vice Chancellor via the Chair of the Committee, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) and will communicate strategic, and operational framework information to the IPC Management Committee.

Membership:

  • The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) (Chair, ex officio)
  • The Commercialisation Manager (ex officio) (or nominee)
  • The Director Research and Research Training Services (ex officio)
  • Nominee of Vice-Chancellor
  • Staff member nominated by Academic Senate
  • Secretariat - Research Office
  • In attendance - Senior Contracts Officer

Terms of Reference:

The Intellectual Property And Commercialisation Committee, which shall be a Committee Advisory to the Vice-Chancellor, shall be responsible for the following:

  1. To advise the Vice-Chancellor, via the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), on matters relating to the University's intellectual property and the commercialisation thereof;
  2. To identify key IP and commercialisation issues and communicate strategic and operational objectives to the Intellectual Property and Commercialisation Management Committee;
  3. To review and develop intellectual property policy;
  4. To advise on overall governance of intellectual property and commercialisation strategy and policy;
  5. To advise on academic issues relating to the University's intellectual property and the commercialisation thereof;
  6. To direct communication of approved policies relating to intellectual property and commercialisation within the University.

The Intellectual Property and Commercialisation Management Committee shall meet at least twice per year, and shall have the authority to co-opt additional members with particular expertise, as required. The normal period of appointment for non ex officio members is two years, with the possibility of re-appointment.
