Macquarie University is seeking to increase numbers of successful ARC Linkage Projects to be administered at Macquarie.

The MQ Linkage Projects (LP) Seeding Grant, which replaces the External Collaborative Research Grant, is designed to support Macquarie University staff to prepare ARC Linkage Projects applications with identified eligible external partners, and to kick-start collaborative research after submission of the application to bridge the six-month period before the outcome of the application is known.  Funding consists of two instalments, the first (up to $10,000) to meet the costs (travel, communications, teaching relief, etc) of preparing the application; the second, to meet the costs of research (up to $40,000 matched on a 1:1 cash basis by the external partner) covering the period until ARC funding for a successful application commences.  Where the ARC LP application is successful this gives a head-start on the subsequent research program, and has the advantage that the necessary Partner Agreement (including intellectual property clauses) between the University and the partner organisation will already have been put in place.  Where the ARC LP application is unsuccessful, there will be greater incentive to continue the collaboration, including making another application in a subsequent round.
