Scheme objectives

The Macquarie University Research Fellowships Scheme has three main objectives:
1. To provide support at a postdoctoral level to researchers near the beginning of their research career who have an outstanding track record (relevant to opportunity) or who show evidence of excellent research potential.
2. To provide an incubation research period for early career researchers, allowing them to increase their competitive edge in securing research funding from non-University sources.
3. To enhance the research capabilities of existing and emerging areas of research concentration and excellence within Macquarie University.

Funding available

Package: From $72,372 pa, including base salary (Level A Point 6) $61,155 to $65,600 pa, annual leave loading and 17% employer superannuation. These salary levels will be adjusted in line with movements in the Academic Salary Scale of the Macquarie University Enterprise Agreement. Applicants may also apply for up to $50,000 to assist with research costs associated with the proposed Fellowship project over three years (up to a maximum of $20,000 in any one year).

Applications from external researchers

Applications from researchers who are not already working at Macquarie University are particularly encouraged. We advise external applicants to take the following steps when applying for a Fellowship:

  1. Become thoroughly familiar with the Funding Rules.
  2. Then decide on a topic and project to pursue as part of the Fellowship.
  3. The next step is to communicate your project to senior researchers at Macquarie University with a view to finding a sponsor for your application.

The Macquarie University website is a rich source of information on our researchers and their areas of specialisation.
