Steps for submitting a Project Grant application to the NHMRC

The NHMRC supports research with a range of funding schemes across the entire spectrum of disciplines relevant to health and medicine. The following steps are provided as a guide for submitting a Project Grant application.

1. Submit your Notice of Intent to Apply

2. Request an Application Identification Number from the Research Office:

  • send an email to grants@mq.edu.au
  • subject: "NHMRC application ID request"
  • include in message: first name, surname, phone, proposal title

3. Download the Informed Filler software and the Research Grant application form: Documentation to Apply, Item 6

4. Read all relevant reference material on the NHMRC Project Grants website.

5. Complete the electronic Informed Filler form.

  • Any errors or missing fields will be highlighted on the relevant page with a red cross. The software will not allow you to submit your form if errors remain.
  • Attach your 1-page Synopsis (RTF) to the application (Section 10). 

6. Attachment: you must name the PDF file following the format of: [app ID]_[CIA surname].pdf - for example, "123456_Smith.pdf". Do not include spaces in the file name. Maximum file size: 2 Mb.

7. Submit the electronic form to the Research Office (Send to RAO button) and email the attachment PDF file to grants@mq.edu.au (include your application ID as the subject).

8. Submit a signed hard copy of the final version to the Research Office with the Consent form
