Ruth Neumann

Associate Professor Ruth NeumannRuth Neumann is Associate Professor in Higher Education and Management in the Dean Higher Degree Research office. She has a BA (Honours) and Dip. Ed. from the University of Adelaide and a PhD from Macquarie University.

Professor Neumann’s responsibilities at Macquarie include the HDR Candidature Management projects, and advice on internal and external HDR student feedback instruments to the Dean HDR and to the Higher Degree Research Committee (e.g. PREQ, MUSEQ-R).

Professor Neumann has also had academic appointments at the University of Oxford and the University of Technology, Sydney; and has been a visiting scholar at the University of Sussex in the U.K., and the University of California, Berkeley (in the Center for the Study of Higher Education). Professor Neumann has also been Principal Advisor, Education and Training with the Prime Ministers’ Office, Malaysia, for a United Nations Development Project, Formulation of a Human Resource Development Master Plan for Malaysia.

Professor Neumann has extensive publications in the area of higher education policy and management, including doctoral education, evaluation, quality and performance management. Her PhD examined the influence of academic senior management on academic work across the disciplines. Professor Neumann has recently completed a large government funded DEST project on The Doctoral Education Experience in Australia (2003) (PDF)
