Central Commencement Program (CCP)

Knowledge of University practices and procedures at the beginning of candidature helps to reduce any problems and delays research students may experience as they research and write their theses. Since 2004 the University has provided a mandatory commencement program for candidates enrolled in research degrees in their first year of study. The Central Commencement Program, a centrally delivered one day program which gives an introduction to University-wide information that all candidates need to know about, is the first component. The second is delivered within the Division of enrolment usually within the first six months of candidature.

The Central Commencement Program is scheduled each semester for the incoming cohort of research students, generally in the week following the end of the enrolment session. Provision is made for external students to complete the program on the web. Details of the central program may be subject to some variation from semester to semester but the following is a general guide to subjects presented. Each of the sections is presented by staff with expertise on the topics:

  • Higher Degree Research and Progression
  • University HDR Resources and Services
  • Research Thesis Preparation and Submission

The Central Commencement Program is also available online to all research students. Staff and students requiring further information about the Central Commencement Program should check the Higher Degree Research Office website.
