Rules, Regulations and By-laws
The University Calendar of Governance, Legislation and Rules contains the By-Laws, Rules and Regulations which govern the operation of the University.
The Rules that most affect Higher Degree Research candidates are the Rules for Doctoral Degrees and the Rules for the Degree of Master of Philosophy. These Rules are set out in the Handbook of Postgraduate Studies which is one of three Volumes of the Macquarie University Calendar. The Rules provide statements of requirements and procedures under the following headings:
- Admission to Candidature
- Program of Studies
- Period of Candidature
- Place of Research
- Termination of Candidature
- Examination of Thesis
From time to time the Rules are amended by the University Council upon recommendation from the Academic Senate and the Higher Degree Research Committee. Information on amendments can be obtained from the Higher Degree Research Office and updated Rule and procedural information is added to the website when confirmed.
All students should be aware of the Rules of the University and those that govern the course in which they are enrolled.
