Overseas Health Cover
Students who come to Australia on a student visa are required to have a compulsory Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) to cover the study period while they are in Australia. OSHC is organized by Macquarie International. Macquarie’s current Health Care Provider is OSHC Worldcare.
All students commencing their study with Macquarie University are required to have a valid OSHC to cover the full period of their study program. Master of Philosophy students are required to pay for 2 years cover upfront, while PhD students are required to pay for 4 years cover upfront. Students completing their thesis well before the expected submission date may request a refund of the OSHC directly from the healthcare insurance provider.
International scholarship recipients may have OSHC costs covered for the scholarship tenure under the terms and conditions of the scholarship. For any periods of candidature outside of the scholarship terms, the responsibility for payment of OSHC lies with the candidate.
If preferred, students may organise their own OSHC through their preferred healthcare provider themselves. A copy of the current OSHC must be provided to HDRO for verification to ensure that they are not in breach of the visa conditions.
