Visa Requirements and Variations

International students will need to apply for a student visa in order to come to Australia to study. There are different types of student visas (subclass). Master by Research and Doctoral degrees fall under Student Visa Subclass 574 – Postgraduate Research. Students will also need to check the Risk Assessment Level of their country when applying for the student visa, as there are different requirements for difference Assessment Levels. Assessment levels can be viewed at the Department of Immigration and Citizenship’s (DIAC) website.

Students may apply for a student visa by following the “Step-by-Step” guideline which is listed on the DIAC’s website. They may also apply for their student visa through one of the University’s registered agents. The list of official representatives is listed on Macquarie International’s website.

Macquarie International is the office within Macquarie University which looks after international coursework students.
