Intellectual Property (IP)
Macquarie University requests that student researchers assign Intellectual Property rights to the University at the time of enrolment so that any IP arising from the research program can be managed effectively. Management of IP by the University also ensures that all active participants can benefit from the research. Assignment of Intellectual Property is a condition of enrolment and will only be waived by special permission of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research). The Intellectual Property Policy has been approved by University Council.
Enrolment Information (Domestic Students)
In general, all new domestic students are to complete enrolment steps by mail, unless otherwise specified. An Enrolment and Registration Advice (proof of enrolment) is to be sent out by email when enrolment process is complete. Enrolment in coursework and research seminar units for continuing students is to be completed by submission of a Change of Program (COP) form. Please refer to the above Enrolment Booklets for further information.
Enrolment Information (International Students)
There is a formal enrolment for international research students. Research students have some flexibility in determining the program start date. This requires agreement from their supervisor. International students are usually expected to arrive prior to the Orientation day. In the event that they arrive after the formal enrolment date due to visa delay, they may start any time from the date of their arrival. If there is no specific date indicated, the formal enrolment date or the arrival date, whichever is later, would be the default start date.
The last date of enrolment for international research students for first semester is 30 April and for second semester, 30 September. Students may be admitted after this date under exceptional circumstances with the approval given by the Manager of the Higher Degree Research Office.

Students who wish to work are also reminded to apply for their Tax File Number (TFN) as well. Application for TFN can be done through the Taxation Office
Generally speaking, students who have been given a work permit under their student visa may work up till 20 hours per week. Scholarship recipients may work no more than 10 hours per week. However, a full time research student is expected to be working an average of 40 hours per week on the research program.
