ICS MQRES Semantic Web Technologies PhD Scholarship
Closing Date: 31 August 2007
Shared collaborative distributed annotation using semantic web technologies
The Semantic Web augments the current Web with machine-processable information enabling humans and machines to work in cooperation; in our context, we are using it as the basis of a linguistic annotation system that is used by language researchers to annotate language resources. This project will look at the issues raised when we allow many people to collaborate on authoring these annotations and making shared annotations available to a community of researchers. This crosses a number of existing areas of research including the semantic web and social computing, and extends the range of interactions available to researchers over the web.
MQRES scholarships are available to domestic and international students. Applicants should have completed equivalent research qualifications to an Australian undergraduate degree with first class honours in a relevant discipline, such as a Masters degree with substantial thesis component. We are seeking high calibre, suitably qualified computing graduates and early career professionals interested in returning to higher degree studies are particularly encouraged to apply.
The MQRES stipend is currently $20,007 p.a. tax exempt (2008). Tenure is 3.5 years full-time, subject to satisfactory progress with tuition fees funded for the scholarship tenure. Additional support for project costs and conference travel will also be available.
Further information regarding the projects, may be obtained by contacting Dr Steve Cassidy, telephone: +61-2-9850 9581, email: steve.cassidy@mq,edu.au.
