Closing Date: Open Year Round
Indigenous Research
A Macquarie University is offering a PhD or Masters by Research Scholarship to an Indigenous Australian student of strong research potential to undertake full-time postgraduate study in an area of interest to the University. Applicants with an interest in the area of Indigenous Health are particularly encouraged to apply. Applicants in all areas will however be considered.
Applicants must be Indigenous Australians who have (or expect to complete in 2006) a four-year undergraduate degree with at least upper second class honours or must provide strong evidence of equivalent achievement. Applicants seeking to establish equivalence to honours are asked to provide full documentation of any achievements and qualifications in the following areas:
- research experience;
- publication of research (preferably in refereed journals);
- conference presentations;
- the completion of a Masters degree with a substantial research component;
- highly relevant work experience.
In addition, two referee reports will be required, one of which must be from an Indigenous Australian, and applicants will be required to confirm their Indigenous identity.
The successful applicant will be selected by a panel comprising academics and Indigenous community members and will be encouraged to participate fully in the work of the host Division and the University with opportunities to contribute to teaching, marking and other appropriate duties to supplement his or her income. This is an Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) equivalent scholarship and includes a living allowance currently $20,007 p.a. tax exempt (2008).
Applicants are strongly encouraged to discuss any aspect of their application with contact staff at Warawara, Department of Indigenous Studies, Macquarie University: either Michael McDaniel on (02) 9850 9970 (michael.mcdaniel@scmp.mq.edu.au) or Terry Widders on (02) 9850 8682 (terence.widders@mq.edu.au).
