Research Candidates & Supervisors

This section provides a detailed overview of Higher Degree Research thesis examination requirements including a thesis definition, presentation requirements, guidelines for maximum length, referencing, outcome advice, graduation and digital thesis submission. Information is also provided on the thesis examination process including expectations for the examination timeline and the University assessment process.

Policy

Macquarie University has a number of policies supporting the examination of theses. The following policies outline the requirements for the appointment of examiners and thesis by publication policy. A copy of the Macquarie Research Degree Rules can also be found here.

Forms

Up to three months prior to submission of a thesis, examiners may be nominated for consideration by the Higher Degree Research Committee. Thesis examiner nomination forms can be found here.

Two forms are essential for the actual submission of a thesis and these forms can be downloaded from here. They are: Submission of an HDR Thesis for Examination Form and the Author’s Consent Form.

It is also possible for Macquarie HDR theses to be added to the Digital thesis Project which means theses can be accessed via the web. The documentation necessary to make a Digital Thesis Submission can be found here along with associated information.
